This is the first I’ve heard about this EverBetter expedition, but they are !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! since its the North America tour. Its a publicity stunt, sure, but just watching the Australia recap made me realize that if there was a person I would want at the helm of a company like Toyota, its Akio. Dude is a stud. It also made me realize that the Hilux and 70 series are still amazing. This whole campaing is SO much better than a lot of the marketing we’ve seen from Toyota’s !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and I’m stoked to see how it pans out.
This relates, I guess, to the post of the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! from yesterday. I have a feeling that its not going on this expedition, but its still cool.

Nah, Eiji Toyoda was the coolest. He led Toyota through their expansion into one of the largest automakers in the world, took on ze Germans with Lexus, and was in charge for their golden age. Arguably the last cool Toyota was the MKIV Supra which came out in 1993. He retired in 1994. Coincidence?

I think the time of Akio is going to be a new golden age, or at least a silver age. I think we are going to see more interesting stuff coming out of Toyota as the governing bodies trust Akio more and more. One thing I can say for sure, his heart is in the right place...inside a nomex suit.

Supposedly, he asked Tetsuya Tada to get a MKV Supra going and that Toyota will bring back the MR2 as an even cheaper sports car offering than the 86, but that was like three years ago. Hopefully I’m wrong, but I think that the poor sales of the 86 kind of nixed that plan.

yeah, the other reason the 90’s was a golden era for Toyota is because it was a golden era for lots of reasons. People had money to spend and car companies were taking risks. To take nothing away from Eiji’s leadership, he was at the helm in good seas.

I would say that one of the biggest problems the 86 has though is that is it cost to much. I would love to see them shoot for a not near as good car for 18-20k. Even make it front wheel drive, just make it sporty and truly entry level that’s kind of what the Tc is supposed to be, so maybe they should just fix the Tc
